*Blockbuster Category
Movie titles which fall under the Blockbuster category will need to satisfy at least two criteria before they can thus be categorized. These conditions include an A-List cast and/or Director, be a part of a successful franchise (examples : Spider-Man, Batman, Shrek, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter etc), have a big production budget of more than US$100 million and opening date in Singapore coinciding with same day and date release in the USA.

As blockbuster titles are seasonal, there will be no more than 20 titles which will carry the Blockbuster rates for the year 2008. In 2007, the industry saw a total of over 320 titles released. It is anticipated that the number of releases for this year will exceed that of the previous year.

Cathay Cineplexes will pre-empt in advance on its directory advertisements, onsite at the cineplexes and on its website, the movie titles under the Blockbuster category at least two weeks before it is released on Cathay’s screens. Iron Man, to be released on 30 April*, will be the first.

What time does your box office open and close?
The box office will open half an hour before the first showtime in the morning and will close half an hour after the last showtime in the evening.

The opening and closing hours of our box office varies from one cineplex to another as they depend on first movie and the last movie of the day at each cineplex. Furthermore, one Cathay cineplex may offer midnight screenings, while another Cathay cineplex offers double midnight screenings, hence the variations of timing.
