Cathay Cineplexes revives the love for movies

The current recession has perhaps dampened the mood a little for some, but Cathay Cineplexes wants to remind movie-goers that their “love for movies” should know no crisis even when times are hard.

Over the years, Cathay Cineplexes has established itself as a favourite destination for movie-lovers in Singapore to enjoy amazing movie experiences, with its great accessible locations, superior THX-certified Sony CineAlta 4KTM Digital Cinema audio-visual systems, affordable ticket pricing, the flexibility of catching late-night movies and the convenience of 24-hour automated ticketing systems, as well as excellent customer service standards. But Cathay Cineplexes is not just stopping here.

From April right through to December 2009, Cathay Cineplexes has made a date with movie-goers in every single month, with the launch of a series of blockbuster film releases and exciting events that will constantly offer movie-lovers a reason to head down to its cinemas for an unforgettable movie escape (please refer to Annex A for the complete list of movie dates with Cathay Cineplexes).

Cathay Cineleisure Orchard goes 3D
Following the fast-rising popularity and demand for three-dimensional (3D) motion pictures, Cathay Cineplexes will now offer 3D movie screenings at not just two but three Cineplex locations, out of which two are situated in the town area – a convenience and bonus for movie-goers that no other film exhibitors currently offer.

Cathay Cineplexes now offers the screening of 3D movies at The Cathay Cineplex and Cathay Cineplex AMK Hub. Come May 2009, Cathay Cineplexes will see the addition of 3D equipment at Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, with the release of the much-anticipated movie Monsters Vs Aliens in 3D on 28 May. This is to be followed by the launch of Disney-Pixar’s movie UP in 3D in June, in time for the school holidays, as well as the ever-popular animation film Ice Age 3 in 3D in July.

Movie-goers can also expect many more upcoming 3D movie releases, including Final Destination 4, G-Force, Coraline, Toy Story 1, Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs, The Timeless, and Alvin and The Chipmunks 2.

Brand new website with value-added features
Cathay Cineplexes has recently completed a revamp exercise on its website, to continually engage movie-lovers and offer value-added features for its media-savvy patrons.

Besides providing the core function of a 24-hour automated online ticketing system, the revamped website sees the addition of new features such as a dedicated page for movie fans to download exclusive visuals and screen savers onto their PCs and mobile phones; a member registration service whereby movie fans can register as a member of Cathay Cineplexes and receive first-hand updates on upcoming promotions and events via a mailing list; a Top 5 Movies Chart that ranks the most popular film releases; and an interactive forum dedicated to movie fans to connect with one another, and for Cathay patrons who would like to share their movie experiences as well as views and comments on the films they have watched.

Cathay’s revamped website at www.cathay.com.sg is due to be launched at the end of April 2009.

Suhaimi Rafdi, Chief Executive Officer of Cathay Organisation, says, “Cathay Cineplexes is actively seeking to revive that love for movies in everyone, even when we are going through tougher times than before. We are confident that what we offer will turn our patrons’ passion for movies into a renewed obsession. We are also looking to constantly engage movie-goers with new offerings, and remind them of the amazing movie experiences they get to enjoy at our Cineplexes."
