Cathay Cineplexes takes the glam and buzz of Orchard Road to the heartlands with the opening of Cathay Cineplex AMK Hub on Saturday 16 June 2007.
Meet Shu Qi
And on the evening of 19 June, Cathay Cineplex AMK Hub welcomes its first celebrity, Shu Qi, for the gala premiere of My Wife is a Gangster 3 to mark the official opening of the Cineplex. Shu Qi will make a public appearance at level 1 of AMK Hub at 7.30pm and to the gala premiere after.

Cathay Cineplex AMK Hub will feature 8 screens and 1,800 seats. Moviegoers will be treated to the latest offerings on the big screens, including late night movies over the weekends, at the 46,000 sqft cineplex on level 4.
Cathay Cineplexes’ first suburban cineplex, which opened in 1999 at Causeway Point, continues to be very successful and popular with the residents up north.
Riding on this success, our second suburban cineplex at AMK Hub is very well positioned in the midst of the highly populated areas of Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Bishan, and Thomson. It has been some time since a new cineplex has been introduced in this vicinity and Cathay Cineplexes is delighted to be bringing the Orchard Road movie-going experience to the heartlands.
Cathay Cineplexes AMK Hub serves to complement the Cathay Cineplexes in the city area. Orchard Road will always be a favoured destination whilst the Cathay Cineplexes in the heartlands will serve those who do not go to Orchard Road but wish for a great movie-going experience. Cathay’s third suburban cineplex will be opening in Downtown East in December 2007.
Says Suhaimi Rafdi, President of Business Operations, Cathay Organistion Holdings Ltd, “By opening in the heartlands we are making it more convenient for those who don't desire the Orchard Road ambience. Something literally closer to home & yet with that Orchard Road glam factor as our cineplexes will provide equivalent quality of services.”
The plush seats, generous legroom, audio and visual quality, equipment and service standards will not be compromised. The cineplex will be poised, in typical Cathay fashion, to offer the best cinematic experience. Customers can expect d igital theatre sound, affordable ticket prices, late night movies, personal snack deliveries to their seats, advanced booking & seat selection options as well as ticket promotions for children, students and senior citizens. Auditoriums will seat between 186 to 242.
Said Mr Rafdi, “So for those who may not even watch 2 movies in a year may now be motivated to watch more movies as it is so easily accessible”.
Cathay Cineplexes AMK Hub will feature the latest commercial titles and will also offer alternative content such as 'live' screenings of sports events or other occasions such as the Oscars. Like our other Cathay Cineplexes, the Cathay Cineplex AMK Hub will also be open for corporate movie events.
