Cathay Organisation pledges support for Earth Hour andcalls on movie-goers to join hands in saving the climate
Along with households and businesses in Singapore, Cathay Organisation Holdings Ltd is pledging its support for Earth Hour, the inaugural event that raises awareness on climate change and global warming. On 28 March 2009 at 8:30 pm, the leading company of Singapore’s entertainment and leisure industry will join the rest of the nation in switching off electricity usage at business outlets for one hour in a bid to save the earth and fight climate change.
Cathay Organisation’s business outlets – including Cathay Cineplexes, The Cathay, Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, Cathay Residences, and Hangout Hotel @ Mt Emily - will be switching off lights and other electrical appliances at specific premises of their outlets during Earth Hour. The Cathay Residences and Hangout Hotel in particular, will be switching off lights at floor lobbies, corridor areas, the gymnasium, and courtyard and garden areas; The Cathay and Cathay Cineleisure Orchard will switch off logo lights and most LED lights around the building facades.
Mr. Suhaimi Rafdi, Chief Executive Officer of Cathay Organisation, says, “Cathay is very excited to participate in Earth Hour Singapore, in the very first year that our nation has pledged its support. Our operations team has thought through the different possibilities of switching off lights at our outlets without affecting daily business operations, and although it is not possible to go into complete darkness, we believe that a little goes a long way, and we are proud to be able to be part of this meaningful initiative.”
Cathay Organisation is also calling out to all movie-goers to switch off their household lights and head down to the Cineplexes to watch a movie “in-the-dark” during the special hour.
“What better way for movie-goers and families to show their support for Earth Hour than to catch a film at our cinema halls which already operate on low lighting, while switching off all the lights back at home?” Suhaimi adds. “As a business, we would like to make a difference, and we would of course encourage our patrons to do the same."
