The Picturehouse, a favourite haunt in the nineties of movie lovers with a penchant for fine cinema, will be re-launched in January 2006 after five years. As part of the new eight-screen Cathay Cineplex at The Cathay, The Picturehouse will feature unique film programming in an exclusive, luxury cinema environment complete with a preview lounge.
Continuing its tradition of showing cutting-edge cinema, The Picturehouse will screen critically-acclaimed films from international directors. The film programming will also offer a variety of film series and festivals including retrospectives of established filmmakers, showcases on different film genres such as documentaries, and spotlights on cinema from different nationalities. In order to nurture Singaporean moviegoers and filmmakers, The Picturehouse will also host film-based events such as talks and workshops by local and international filmmakers, and critics.
Patrons will be treated to an enjoyable movie-going experience. Eighty-eight plush Oscar Chairs, designed by luxury Italian brand Poltrona Frau, will be fitted to provide ample legroom and comfort. The Picturehouse will feature state-of-the-art technology in film projection and Dolby Digital surround sound for the best sound quality. After a film screening, Picturehouse patrons can proceed to the Preview Lounge through an exclusive entrance, where they can relax over drinks and snacks served at the bar. This exclusive cinema and lounge area is also available for private functions.
